Welcome to JapaneseScreens.net
The Japanese screens (byobu in Japanese) distributed by A-CROSS Corporation are handcrafted
by third-generation Kyoto-based producer, Iohara Seijudo, which is the only
byobu producer in Japan still producing byobu from start (making of the shoji) to finish
(silk brocade). The Japanese genre of byobu was started and
perfected in Kyoto so if you are planning to buy a Japanese screen, ensure it is produced in
Kyoto as there are a lot of screens made of inferior quality produced in the suburbs
surrounding Tokyo, which has no history of making authentic byobu.
While we are offering wholesale prices our byobu are not priced to reach the mass
market(prices start at around $1,300) as the manufacturing process is arduous, each piece
can take up to one month to fully complete, thus it can be cost prohibitive for some. Yet
for the craftsmanship and quality we feel the prices are competitive. To inquire, please let
us know the reference number of the screen in which you have an interest.
Please note that all the screens we sell via this website are 3 ft (H) X 6 ft (L) or 91 cm (H) X 1.82 m (L) in size, except for the 2-panel screens featured in Part VII and the small screens in Part VIII.
